Movies of 2011
Welcome folks to my blog section here representing the greatest independent film company from here to Timbuktu - Neonreel! I have recently started writing a script for a full-length film, which has me thinking. It isn’t easy to write a great piece of literature was is a severe understatement. With that being said, lets take a look at some of the films that have come out this year and what we can expect for the remainder of 2011.
In January “The Mechanic” remake appeared on the big screen. This flick starred Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, and Tony Goldwyn. To be honest with you if you’re into action films than this one is not to be missed. I felt Statham did an excellent job as did Sutherland. Although I generally despise remakes, this one is well worth the time it takes to watch it.
In February I had the desire to see “Unknown” starring Liam Neeson but I never had the chance to. Looks great and from the description regarding the plot line, it very well should have been. I look forward to catching this one in the near future.
In March 2 great films came out, the first being “Rango” starring Johnny Depp. I love a great animated movie every now and again. Also, you really can’t go wrong with Depp. The other film was “The Lincoln Lawyer” starring Matthew McConaughey. This one is based on a novel by Michael Connelly. Also Ryan Phillippe does very well at his part so I suggest to all you catch this one.
In April “Your Highness” hit home starring James Franco, Danny McBride, and Natalie Portman. As disappointed as I was with the 4th installment of Scream, I was anticipating that to be my favorite film for the month but it wasn’t to be. Franco and McBride are funny as hell and director Gordon Green did an excellent job all around.
In May “Thor”, “ Pirates of the Caribbean”, and “The Hangover II” all made its way to compete for box office supremacy. Unfortunately this was another month I wasn’t able to catch the opportunity to go to the theater. I am sure one of the three was well worth watching so take time to check them out.
In June we saw the release of “X-Men First Class”, “The Green Lantern”, and the comedy “Bad Teacher” but the movie of the month had to be “Super 8” starring Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler. There isn’t enough I can even say about it but I did a blog 2 weeks back talking a little about how special it was. Probley the best film of 2011 if I had to predict!
In July “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part II” command huge box office numbers and the month is not over. I have to sadly admit; I have a lot of catching up to do with the series so I won’t be watching this one for a while. I know boo to me. I am also anticipating watching “Cowboys vs. Aliens” which at first I had no interest in. Seems to be a pretty good concept so I guess time will tell.
In August we will see the live action Smurfs film starring Neil Patrick Harris, which call me what you will, I am interested in. The Smurfs were huge when I was a kid and who doesn’t like N.P.H.? I am dead serious; I am going to see this one!
In September I am anticipating the arrival of “Moneyball” starring Brad Pit, Jonah Hill, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Seems to be a good enough plot and I for one am a big Hoffman fan. I would suggest this for anyone who is a fan of writer Michael Lewis as well. This is taken from his best selling book tracks.
In October “Paranormal Activity 3” will be scaring audiences worldwide. This is the film series that will be coming out with new installments in October for years to come. Taking over where Saw films left, if you’re into the franchise, we now have something to look forward to every Halloween.
In November “Puss in Boots”, “ Happy Feet 2” and the live action “Muppets” film to look forward to. This will be the month of animation domination in the theaters. So if you’re into that or your ankle biters are, your set!
In December there’s only one movie coming out I know of that interest me enough to go to the theaters to see it and that’s “Sherlock Holmes 2” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I liked the first a good bit so I’ll have to see what they do to make the second worthwhile. “ The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Repace will be making her English Language debut in this so maybe all the pieces will make a fantastic product.
Well there you have it folks. With half the year over, we still have some big movies to hit the silver screen. So go out and support you favorite filmmakers, actors and actresses. Hopefully those of you who read have gained enough insight to determine which films you are interested in. Now I must be going, always other things to be doing. Until next time, take care and go see a movie!
